Golf cart, ATV, and off-road vehicles are now subject to Illinois’ new mandatory insurance law beginning January 1, 2010
House Bill 2455 (Public Act 96-279) made several changes to the definition of non-highway vehicles in the Illinois Vehicle Code and requires that all non-highway vehicles operated on a street, highway or roadway be subject to Illinois’ minimum liability insurance limits.
A non-highway vehicle is defined as a motor vehicle not specifically designed for use on a public highway and includes the following:
1. All-terrain vehicles
2. Golf carts
3. Off-highway motorcycles
4. Neighborhood vehicles
